Doris Gorseth Kabanuk • 1922 - 2006 Doris Ellen Annie Olson was born on April 10, 1922, the daughter of Otto T. and Annie (Nelson) Olson on the family farm, rural Blaisdell, ND. She was raised on the Olson family farm. She attended grade school and most of her high school in Blaisdell. Before her senior year, the Blaisdell High School closed. She then completed her high school education at Stanley High School, graduating in 1940. She then attended Minot State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school in Crowfoot District, rural Coulee, ND,
and Granada District, rural Blaisdell, ND. She later worked as
a relief agent for Great Northern Railroad in Blaisdell for two
years during WWII. Doris was a longtime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Blaisdell, where she had taught Sunday school, and was a member of its WELCA. She was also an original member of Madagascar Mission Society. She was currently a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot, where she was also active in WELCA, until the last few years. Doris was a good cook and well known for her donuts. On May 11, 1990, Doris married Victor Kabanuk in Minot. They made their home in Minot. Victor passed away on February 18, 1997. She moved into Somerset Court in September of 2001. She resided there until January of 2003, when she moved into Trinity Homes. Surviving family includes: daughter, Noel (Mark) Nesheim, Palermo, ND; sons, Algene "Gene" (Linda) Gorseth, Bismarck, Lyle (Gayle) Gorseth, Blaisdell, Daniel (Brenda) Gorseth, Carrington, and Steven (Karen) Gorseth, Big Lake, MN; son-in-law, Tom Huff, Jr., Minot; grandchildren, Lucia and Jon Nesheim; Daphne (Cody) Heid, and Charlie Gorseth; Grant, Madison, and Mariah Huff; Garrett, Jessica, and Adam Gorseth, and a step-grandson, Ben Klein; and Dean, Erin, Allison, and Laura Gorseth; sisters, Helen Kjellberg, Minot, Thelma Solberg, Norma Kjellberg, both Stanley; and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ernest Gorseth and Victor Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ernest Gorseth and Victor Kabanuk; and daughters, Corrine Gorseth and Eleanor "Elly" Huff. Funeral: Thursday, November 30, 2006, at 11 a.m. at
Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot.
