Jessie Kabanuck 1925 - 2010 Jessie H. Maxmenko was born September 27, 1925, a daughter of John and Arpen (Spechko) Maxmenko, in Wheatstone, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was raised among thirteen children and lived on the family farm and attended Glen Ellyn School. As a young adult, she moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where she worked as a seamstress at Joyners Department Store. While she was visiting her sister, Pearl, in Portland, Oregon, she met her future husband, Nick T. Kabanuck, while he was visiting his cousin. They later married March 29, 1946, in Bottineau, ND. They made their home on a farm in the Glenburn/Lansford area for a time before moving to Minot in 1957. While living in Minot, they continued to farm their land. They were married for fifty-five years until Nick passed away December 14, 2001. Jessie continued to reside in Minot and in 2007, she moved into Trinity Homes in Minot. She was a former member of the Glenburn Baptist Church and currently a member of First Baptist Church in Minot. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Jessie traveled with her daughter and granddaughter as often as possible. She visited Paris, China and Tibet. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and was an avid collector of key chains among many other items. Jessie lived her life by the philosophy, "I expect to pass through this world but once: if therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." Her loving family includes: daughter, Dolores A. Kabanuck, Minot; son and daughter-in-law, David and Joanne Kabanuck, Bismarck; grandchildren, Allison (Jeff) Mehlhorn, Jennifer (Dave) Vogel, Karen (Nate) Faiman, and Beth (Tim) Peske; and great-grandchildren, Logan Vogel, Shelby Vogel, Sophie Faiman and Sean Faiman; brother, Paul (Mary) Maxmen, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; sisters, Gladys (John) Vakenti, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Mary (Jim) Lea, Fort St. John, British Columbia, Canada, and Myrtle (Raymond) Armstrong, Eastend, Saskatchewan; and nephews, Terry (Sharon) Kabanuck, and John (Liz) Nurnberger;
