Thelma B. Johnson 1909 - 2006

Thelma B. Johnson, 97, Kenmare, died Sunday, December 17, 2006 in Kenmare.

Thelma Brigitte Brekhus Johnson was born on August 12, 1909 to Henry and Anna (Skjerveggen) Brekhus on the homestead farm north of Norma, ND in Rockford Township in the new unfinished house being built by her father.

She attended Rockford School #4 and four years of high school at Park Region Luther College in Fergus Falls, MN, and one year at the Minot State Teachers College. She taught schools in Rockford Township for three years.

On June 21, 1931 she married Sanford Johnson. They lived on a farm one mile west from his parents in Rockford Township until they moved into Kenmare in 1974. Sanford died on September 15, 1978.
Thelma was a member of Evanger Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare, and Evanger Women of the ELCA, Edson Homemakers Club and Kenmare Senior Citizens. She was a church organist for many years. She had been a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible school teacher, 4-H leader for girls and Farmers Union Reserve leader. She was active in making many quilts, knitting baby sweaters, and baby layette sets for Lutheran World Relief.

She is survived by sons Howard S. (Bernice) Johnson, Conrad, MT, Dennis S. Johnson, Kenmare, ND and Gary S. (Nancy) Johnson, Miamisburg, OH; one daughter, Shirley T. (Eng) Monson, Pataskala, OH; grandchildren, Cindy, Tami, Diane, Sandy, Evelyn, Ken, Susan, Holly, Sheldon, Nancy, Daryl, Ann, Stacy, Heather and Adam; great grandchildren, Amy, Owen, Joel, Richard, Jennifer, Tyler, Trisha, Amanda, Daniel, Kendra, Daniella, Kyle, Christopher, Mason, Michael, Cassie, Cody, Cayla, Jake, Casey, Josie, Megan, Chandler, Chloe, Paige, Carmen, Lorelei, Nicole, Faith, Zachary, Joshua, Lane, Lacee, Sheridan, Mariah, Darin and Ashlee; there are also numerous great great grandchildren. She has brothers, Lloyd Brekhus, Minot, ND, Hartman Brekhus, Douglas, AZ; sister, Bertha Morris, Fargo, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford and son, Ordell S. Johnson, and his wife Bernice; her parents, Henry and Anna Brekhus; and brothers, Julius, Rosvel, Adolph, Ludvig, Bernice Munter and sister, Rose Crager.

Funeral service: Thursday, December 21, 2006 at 11 am at Evanger Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare, ND.
Burial at Evanger Lutheran Church Cemetery will follow the service.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2006 from 3 pm until 6 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
