Nina Johnson 1917 - 2003 Nina Johnson, 85, Minot, formerly of Glenburn, ND, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003, in a Minot nursing home. Nina was born on October 20, 1917, in Hill City, SD, to George W. and Ellen (Fender) Smith. She attended school near Hill City. An independent young woman, she learned to sew and crochet from her mother, and became an accomplished seamstress. She met her future husband, Dale Johnson, in the Hill City area while he was working for the Civilian Conservation Corps. They were married on June 10, 1937, in Hill City, and moved to Renville County, near Glenburn. She and Dale raised three daughters and a son on the farm. She helped her husband with their farming operation and later went to work for S.L. Reiquam's Implement Store in Glenburn. She worked as a bookkeeper for S.L. for many years, and retired when the business was sold. In her later years, she remained active in the Glenburn community and spent much of her time sewing quilts and crocheting afghans for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Glenburn and enjoyed her weekly get-togethers with the Merry Farmerettes Homemakers Club. She was a big hit with her grandchildren at birthdays with special cakes, sleepovers, family meals, and her withstanding date of fresh popcorn every Saturday night. Dale and Nina moved to Minot in 1978. Dale passed away on July 2, 1997. She continued to live in Minot, and was living in Trinity Homes at the time of her death.
