"Millie" Johnson was born August 29, 1921, on her family farm 10 miles southeast of Minot. She was the daughter of Marit (Pladsen) and John Hagen. She married Francis Johnson on March 15, 1941, and they made their home on a farm four miles southeast of Minot. They later started a new farm in the family coulee to raise their four children. Mildred worked as a homemaker and as a waitress at the Minot Livestock Auction. Francis died December 28, 1968, after which Mildred moved to Minot. She was employed by Dakota Drug until 1993. She was active in the Deborah Circle, quilting, volunteering in the office and playing piano for the ManorCare Nursing Home church services. Millie was known for her afghans, which she knitted or crocheted for gifts and charity events. She wasn't content to sit and do nothing. Music played a key role in Millie's life. Early in their marriage Francis on the banjo, Mildred on the piano, and her brother Jim on the accordion, formed three of the "Four Aces" band. She was a great supporter of the arts in the Minot community and attended everything she could.
