Marvin W. Johnson 1926 - 2005 Marvin W. Johnson, 79, 1784 29th St. NW, Ruso, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, in a Velva nursing home. Marvin was born March 3, 1926, the son of John G. and Hilda C. (Olsen) Johnson on the family farm which is located in Otis Township of McLean County, rural Ruso, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm, and attended school in Ruso. As a young adult, he assisted his parents with the operation of the family farm. On June 6, 1956, Marvin was united in marriage to Judy Schiff at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva, ND. They made their home on the Johnson family farm, where they operated a dairy business and raised small grains and beef cattle. Following the passing of his parents, they continued to operate the family farm. He farmed until 2004, after 60 plus years. Marvin was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva. At one time, he had sang in the Butte men's choir. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Ruso/Butte area, and was faithful to the Velva Public Library. Marvin's greatest attribute was his sense of humor. His family was the most important thing to him. His favorite pastime was listening to his private family jam sessions and spending valuable time with them. He was an avid NY Yankees fan, and had enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He also enjoyed camping, reading, waterskiing, traveling throughout the United States, and playing pinochle. Surviving family includes: wife of 49 years, Judy of Ruso, ND;children: David Johnson of Casselton, ND; Janice (Myron) Dinga of Riverside, CA; Paul (Terri) Johnson of Jamestown, ND; John (Shelley) Johnson of Owatonna, MN; Kathryn (Scott) Bauer of Velva; and Chris (Nick) Casalo of Long Island, NY;15 grandchildren: Natalie, and Nathen Johnson; Jessica, and Justin Dinga; Bray, Casey, and Lea Johnson; Amber, April, and Kelsey Johnson; Preston, Taylor, and Dixon Bauer; Nicholas, and Benjamin Casalo; 2 great-grandchildren: Gage, and Emily Helm;brothers: Lloyd W. Johnson and Lester F. (Leona) Johnson, both of Minot;sisters: Bernice Melom of Worthington, MN; and Norma Austreim of Williston;numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother. Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, June 30, 2005, at 10: 30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva.
