Marlyn Joseph Johnson 1909 - 2005 Marlyn Joseph Johnson, 69, Berthold, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, in his home surrounded by his loving family, and entered into heaven on a song. Marlyn was born to Joseph and Martha (Barnett) Johnson on July 23, 1935 in Berthold, ND. He was raised on a farm 12 miles south of Berthold. He attended a one room school for the first eight grades, and graduated from Berthold High School in 1953. He attended Minot State Teacher's College and earned his teaching certificate in 1954. Marlyn taught for three years in a country school south of Berthold. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1957, and served at Fort Carson, Colorado, Fort Ord, California and Sandia Base, New Mexico. He received an honorable discharge. Following his military discharge Marlyn worked with his father on their family farm. Marlyn married Connie and family; Cindy, Darcy, Jeff, Jill, Jon, and Jamie, on May 8, 1964. Our family was completed in January of 1966 when Jodi was born. Marlyn began working for Ralph Brown at Brown's Service Station in 1965, where he worked until his retirement in 2000. Marlyn raised cattle for the next several years at his family farm until he was forced to retire due to ill health. Marlyn was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold, and sang in the church choir and was a reader at church for many years. Marlyn is survived by his wife of 41 years, Connie, Berthold; sons, Jeffrey, Minot, Jon, Berthold, and Jamie, Minneapolis, MN; daughters, Cynthia (Don) Torgrimson, Burlington, Darcy Watts, Grand Forks, Jill (Jerry) Aarseth, Minot, Jodi (Phillip) Johnson, Minot; daughter-in-law, Lori Johnson, Stanley; Marlyn's faithful dog Peaches; brother, Gerald (Marlene) Johnson, Keene, ND; sisters, Janice (Jim) Olson, Great Falls, MT, Carol Bjelland, Berthold and Judith Timm, Minot; grandchildren, Linus (Lynea) Kalenze, Jr, Chaska, MN, Craig Kalenze, Minneapolis, MN, Rebecca Kalenze, Grand Forks, Tosha Warnke, Minot, Jessica (Boyd) Rakness, Minot, Scott Torgrimson, Minot, Lindsay and Courtney Aarseth, Minot, Mandi (Dustin) Tarasen, Minot, Heather and Zachary Johnson, Stanley, Danielle Johnson, Wildrose, Nathan and Taylor Johnson, Minot; great-grandchildren, Talia and Keira Kalenze, Grand Forks, Jake and Lauren Kalenze, Chaska, MN, Mitchel and Hunter Warnke, Minot and Alyssa Tarasen, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Marlyn was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Martha Johnson Funeral: Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold, ND. Visitation and prayer service: Visitation Friday, May 27, 2005, from noon to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold, ND.
