Helga Johnson 1910 - 2010 Helga Johanna Fjeldahl was born September 5, 1910, a daughter of John and Margit (Joines) Fjeldhal, in Mandan Township of Ward County, near Berthold, ND. She was raised in the area and graduated from Minot High School in 1928. She then attended Minot State Teachers College where she received her Standard Teaching Certificate. She went on to teach in rural schools for several years. Helga married Max Ziegler in 1933. From this union, a daughter, Joanne was born. They were later divorced. Helga married Owen A. Johnson July 6, 1938, in Grafton, ND. They made their home on a farm in Van Buren Township of Renville County, near Glenburn, ND. They retired from farming in 1972, and continued to reside there. Owen passed away March 7, 1994. Following her husband’s death, Helga moved to Bemidji, MN, to be closer to her daughter, Joyce Grove. She later moved to Minneapolis, MN, to be closer to her daughter, Clarice Polzin, She lived there for a number of years, before returning to Bemidji, where she had continued to reside until the time of her death. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Homemakers Club, and the Farmers Union, all of Glenburn. She had also been active as a 4-H leader while her daughter’s were growing up. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, embroidery work, and reading. Surviving family includes: daughters, Joanne (Hugo) Fursteneau, Minot, Joyce Grove, Bemidji, MN, Clarice Polzin, Spring Lake Park, MN, Ruby (George) Graff, Morris, MN, and Sharon Brentrup, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Gravseth and her husband, Rueben, who passed away September 13, 2010, Bottineau, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
