Elnora Johnson 1912 - 2003

Elnora W. Johnson, 90, Kenmare, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, in her home.

Elnora was born June 26, 1912, in Madison, MN, the daughter of Martin and Anna Sorenson. At a young age she moved to the Coulee area and in 1926 was adopted by Nick and Andrea Wilson. She attended school at Coulee.

Elnora married Orville N. Johnson at her family home in Coulee, ND, on March 24, 1940. They lived in the Nick Wilson homestead and farmed in the Coulee area their entire lives. Orville died December 1, 1986. In 1999 Elnora moved into Kenmare where she since had lived.

Elnora was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Coulee, until it closed, and then became a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Coulee. She was also a member of the WELCA. Elnora and Orville were members of the Kenmare Square Dance Club from 1960 to 1967, and traveled extensively out of state for conventions. As a child she was a 4-H member and a promoter of that organization.

Survivors: Daughters, Eldora Anderson, Minneapolis, MN, and Diana Van Berkom, Kenmare; grandchildren, Bradley (Lisa) Van Berkom, and their daughter, Tricia, all of Dickinson, Brian (Patty) Van Berkom, and their children, Airiana and Ashley, all of Williston, Brenda (Cory) Klitzke, and their children, Caitlin, Cassie and Chase, all of Dickinson, Brent Van Berkom, Minot and Mark Anderson and his son, Nicholas, both of Minneapolis, MN; numerous nieces and nephews survive. She was preceded in death by her husband; her adoptive parents; brothers, Arnold and Walter Sorenson; sisters, Edna Helgeson and Freda Mattson.

Funeral: Friday, April 18, 2003, at 1:00 p.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Coulee, ND.

Visitation: Friday one hour prior to the service in the church.

Burial: Friday at 3:30 p.m., at the Coulee Cemetery, Coulee, ND.

Music: Congregational Hymns, "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Old Rugged Cross" Ilene Mickelsen, organist.

Active Bearers: Brian Van Berkom, Bradley Van Berkom, Brent Van Berkom, Mark Anderson, Cory Klitzke, Randy Enander and Willie Enander.
