Ethel Johnson 1909 - 2002

Ethel Johnson, 92, Minot, died Thursday, October 31, 2002, in a Minot nursing home.

Ethel was born December 13, 1909, on the family farm near Blaisdell, ND, the daughter of Christ and Anna (Grotte) Mahlum. She was raised and educated in the Blaisdell area and worked several years at the C.O. Rued Grocery Store. Ethel was baptized and confirmed in Shell Creek Lutheran Church, rural Blaisdell.

In January of 1944 she married Oscar M. Johnson in Maxbass, ND. The couple lived in Maxbass for two years and then moved to Minot. Oscar died December 29, 1982. Ethel continued to live in Minot and the last two years was a resident at ManorCare Health Services.

Ethel was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, and was active in the church circle.

Survivors: Son, Allan Johnson, Marysville, WA; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister, Agnetta (Ed) Slind, Minot; brother, Ellsworth (Verlene) Mahlum, Stanley; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; son, Melvin Edward Johnson; daughter-in-law, Anne Johnson; her parents; brothers, Arnim, Anton and Clarence Mahlum; sister, Myrtle Kabanuk.

Funeral: Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at 1:00 p.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Tuesday, November 5, 2002 from noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot and on Wednesday, November 6, 2002, from 11:00 a.m. to service time at the church.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
