Donald G. "DJ" Johnson 1923 - 2002

Donald G. "DJ" Johnson, 78, 404 26th St. NW, Minot, died Friday in a Velva care center.

He was born on December 30, 1923, in Watford City, ND, the son of T. Elmer and Margit (Ballanby) Johnson. He was reared and educated in Watford City and graduated from Watford City High School in May of 1941. Following graduation he spent two years on the West Coast.

On December 26, 1943 he entered the United States Navy. He completed his training at the Naval Training Station in Farragut, Idaho. He then served on the aircraft USS Intrepid (CV11). He was honorably discharged on April 12, 1946 and moved to Breckenridge, MN. On January 8, 1947 he married Albertha Trupka at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge. He went to work for the Great Northern Railroad which was later known as the Burlington Northern. His job took them to Minot in 1958. He continued working for the railroad until the early 1960's when he started as a Household Inspector at the Minot Air Force Base. He worked there for 25 years before retiring in 1987.

He was a member of St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, where he was an usher and was active in the Serra Club and the Knights of Columbus, serving as a Fourth Degree Knight. He also volunteered at Trinity Homes and at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church food pantry and was a member of the American Legion and the World War II "Last Mans Clubs".

Survivors: wife, Albertha, Minot; daughter, Donna Critzer, Canyon Country, CA; son, Daryl (Molly) Johnson, Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Erin Johnson, Jacksonville, CA; grandson, Jeff (Lisa) Johnson Hubert, NC; great-grandson, Graye Johnson, Hubert, NC; brother, Chester (Ida) Johnson, Minot and sister, Gladys Albers, St. Augustine, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Trygve Johnson.

Funeral: Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation: Monday, from noon until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Rosary Recitation: Monday, 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
