Arthur B. Johnson, 92, Minot, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in a Bemidji, MN hospital.

Art B. Johnson was born April 16, 1914 in Hamlet Township, Renville County, North Dakota, the son of August and Gunda Johnson. Art's youth was spent in and around Lansford and Mohall, North Dakota, where he graduated from High School in 1934.

Art married Lois G. Olson on September 1, 1940, in Bottineau, North Dakota. They lived in Belle Fouche, South Dakota, Sydney, Montana, and Newcastle, Wyoming, where he managed Red Owl Grocery Stores. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served during WWII in the Hawaiian Islands. After the war, they moved to Minot, North Dakota, and started Garden Valley Grocery in Northwest Minot. He later owned and operated Johnson Construction, building custom homes in Northwest Minot. Art and Lois raised four sons, Dennis, Wesley, Terrance, and Leon in Minot, enjoying and supporting their activities during their school years. A very important part of Art's life was Christ Lutheran Church, where he and his family were charter members. Art remained active in Christ Lutheran until he relocated to Bemidji in 2004. He enjoyed participating in preparations for the Höstfest, making lefse and potato klub. He loved hunting, fishing, and traveling with his family and friends, including many hours spent fishing on Lake Sakakawea.

Art is survived by his sons Dennis (Joan) of Grand Forks, Wesley (Patricia) of Edina, MN. Terrance (Susan) of Bemidji, MN; brothers John of Bemidji, Melvin (Ruth) of Paxton, Nebraska, and sister Ovedia Jensen of Kenmare, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, son, Leon, two brothers and a sister.

Memorials preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, Minot, North Dakota.

Funeral Service: Friday, April 13, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday, April 12, 2007, from Noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
