Arlan W. Johnson, 69, Minot, formerly of Maxbass, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 in Minot.

Arlan was born May 20, 1937 in Chatfield Township, Bottineau County, ND to Ira R. and Anna (Jordre) Johnson. He was raised on the family farm near Maxbass, ND and attended rural school in Chatfield Township. He graduated from Glenburn High School in 1955.

Arlan served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. He was honorably discharged and returned to North Dakota. Arlan married Helen Svee on January 15, 1959. He worked construction building housing at the Minot Air Force Base in the 1960's and farmed on the family homestead farm until semi-retirement in 1999 when they moved to Minot.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Glenburn and served on Chatfield Township board for many years. He was an avid reader and loved to spend time fishing and visiting with family and friends. He received the Soil Conservation Award from Mouse River Soil Conservation District in the mid 1970's. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and the North Dakota Farmers Union. He loved to travel and together with his wife they spent the last few winters in Texas.

Survivors: Wife, Helen, Minot; daughter, Deanna Narum, Minot; sons, Craig (Julia) Johnson, Maxbass, Jeffrey (Mary) Johnson, Grand Forks AFB, Evan (Tracy) Johnson, Surrey; nine grandchildren, Kristin (Tyler) Olson, Kasie Narum, Kayla Narum, Kent Johnson, Grant Johnson, Brian Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Eric Johnson, Hailey Johnson; brother, James (Joanne) Johnson, Maxbass; sister, Marian (Bill) Crawford, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Anna Johnson, brothers, Jesse and Ira Johnson, Jr. and brothers, Keith, Alvin and Eugene Johnson, who died as children.

Memorial Service: Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Glenburn, ND.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register (today) Friday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

A private burial of his ashes will be held at a later time.

The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute or to the Eckman Riverside Cemetery.
