Alvin Manfred Johnson 1917 - 2008 Alvin was born May 9, 1917 the oldest child of the late Albert W. and Mamie Johnson on a farm north of Kenmare. He attended the little school (for eight years) across the road from the farm and home where he grew up. He started high school in Kenmare but was needed back on the farm to help. In 1936 Alvin went "out west" to Oregon to find work. He returned home to Kenmare in 1938. While at home he met and married Ella Hansen on October 26, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church rural Kenmare. Alvin began farming in Denmark Township where he and Ella lived and raised their family. There they farmed for many years. After retiring from farming in 1979, Alvin pursued his hobby of woodworking. Alvin and Ella also enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren in Pennsylvania and Montana and with family and new friends in Texas, Florida, and California. Alvin was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church rural Kenmare. While living in Minot, Alvin and Ella attended the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Minot. Those who shared in his life, loving wife of 67 years, Ella M. (Hansen) Johnson and his four children: Carmin (Barry) Daryman, Jacobus, PA.; Adele (James) Haaland, Berthold,ND; Gail (Marcus ) Elser, Ennis, MT; and Allen (Velinda) Johnson, Hanover, PA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jennifer Daryman, Kathleen Daryman, Jerome Haaland, Arlyn Haaland, Sherry (Shawn) Walker, Jeffrey Elser, Julie Elser, Alex (Carly) Johnson, and Anthony Johnson, and a great grandson, Adler Haaland, a brother Collins (Arlene) Johnson, Kenmare; a sister-in-law, Ellen Johnson, Green Bay WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Albert W. and Mamie Johnson, a brother Floyd Johnson , a sister and brother-in-law Doris and Lester Hansen, and a grandson, Kevin Elser. Visitation: Monday, January 19, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot. There will be no reviewal prior to the funeral at the church.
