Albertha Johnson 1925 - 2011 Albertha Georgia Trupka was born May 11, 1925, a daughter of Frank J. and Marie Albertha (Maruska) Trupka, in Wahpeton, ND. She was raised and educated in Wahpeton, graduating from Wahpeton High School. Following her high school graduation, she moved to Oakland, CA, where she worked in the shipyards as a riveter’s assistant during WWII. Following WWII, she returned to North Dakota. Albertha was best known as “Babe or Bert” - nicknames she acquired early in her life. She married Donald G. “D.J.” Johnson January 8, 1947, in Wahpeton, ND. They made their home in Wahpeton, where she worked as a nurses aide. In 1958, they moved to Minot, ND, where she worked at F.W. Woolworth’s as a clerk. She retired in 1981, after working there for 23 years. Donald passed away December 27, 2002. Following her husband’s death, she continued to reside in Minot. Albertha was an active member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Minot, where she served as the coordinator of funeral fellowships for many years, was a greeter, volunteered with the gift shop, was very active in the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, and was a member of the St. Monica’s Widow Guild. She was also a member of the Serra Club, and volunteered her time with the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church Food Pantry and at Trinity Homes in Minot. She enjoyed sewing and doing embroidery work.
