Agnes Evelyn Johnson 1922 - 2002

Agnes Evelyn Johnson, 79, 708 12th St NE, died Tuesday, September 24th in a Minot Hospital.

Agnes was born November 3rd, 1922 to Raymond and Dora Mary (Houle) Nichols of Berthold. She was raised there, graduating from Berthold High School in 1941. She worked at St Joseph's hospital in the laundry department, and at Trinity Hospital in the dietary section. She married Carl G. Johnson June 1st, 1946. Agnes helped support her family through the next many years by doing housework for various households, running a home laundry business, and doing babysitting in her home. Though visually handicapped throughout her life, she stayed very active through activities at the Parker Senior Center, and the Minot Visually Handicapped group. Most notable for Agnes was the countless hours she invested in making "picture books" for the Crippled Children's Centers of North Dakota, and many clinic waiting rooms. She made over 500 books, cutting and glueing pictures from used greeting cards to construction paper. Anyone who has ever seen one of these creations was in awe of the work and artistry of these books. Jack Bone of the Minot Daily News wrote many times in his columns of the "picture book lady". She most recently resided at Henry Tower.

Survivors include her sons, Raymond A. and Richard C. Johnson and his wife, Joann, Minot. Granddaughters, Raina Farster and Brecca Phillips of Valparaiso, IN, Jessica and Erica Johnson, Minot, brothers, Joseph, Lawrence, and Alfred (Delores) Nichols, all of Minot, James (Sharon) of Berthold, Bernie of Lemon Grove, CA.
