Herbert C. "Herb" Johansen • 1925 - 2011 Herbert C. Johansen was born March 15, 1925 in Ryder, ND, to Albert and Minnie (Saggau) Johansen. He was raised in Ryder and graduated from Ryder High School in 1943. Herbert married Gloria L. Schenfisch July 2, 1945 in Sidney, MT. Following their marriage he worked on a dairy farm for a time before moving south of Makoti. While living there he was employed by the Makoti Elevator. Following his father’s death, Herb and Gloria moved to the Johansen farm near Ryder, where they raised their family, farmed, ranched and had dairy cattle. Gloria passed away March 8, 1997. Herb continued to farm and was once married to Delores Olson. In September of 2010 he moved into Brentmoor in Minot. While farming Herb worked at Minot Sand and Gravel and also operated the Ryder Locker Plant for several years. He served as Anna Township Assessor. He was a faithful servant of God and was an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, and he served on the Farmers Union Elevator Board, all in Ryder. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and liked to work in his garden. He also enjoyed mechanics and was an innovator of many inventions he made for his personal use on the farm. His family, grandchildren and farming were his pride and joy. Those who shared in his life, Children, Terry (DelRaye) Johansen, Ryder, Wanda (Joseph) Sullivan, Minot, Rod (Paula) Johansen, Ryder, Joleen (Kent) Satrang, Fargo; daughter-in-law, Shirley Johansen, Dickinson; grandchildren, Darin (Michelle) Johansen, Jamie (Nikki) Johansen, Jennifer (Dean) Rockwell, Christy Johansen, Matthew (Laurie) Johansen, Joshua Johansen, Gloria Sullivan, John Paul Sullivan, Timothy Sullivan, Daniel Sullivan, Jeremy Johansen, Nikki (Stephen) Bryant, Levi Dyba, Andrea (Loren) Tollefson and Amy (Ryan) Bro; 23 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Sinn, Minot; sisters-in-law, Loretta Johansen, Gravette, AR, Marvel (Ray) Christenson, Plaza and Sharon (Kent) Leader, Gahanna, OH; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Herb was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; daughter, Donna Larson; son, Dennis Johansen; sisters, Evelyn Fredrickson and Olive Sinn and brother, Delbert Johansen. Funeral: Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 10:30 a.m, at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Ryder, ND. Prayer Service: Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Ryder. Visitation: Friday, today from 11:00 to 3:00 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND and Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Ryder.
