Martha Jo Jessen • 1914 - 2003 Martha Jo Jessen, 89, Kenmare, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, in the Kenmare hospital. Martha was born April 22, 1914, on the family farm near Bowbells, ND, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Olson) Neve. She was raised and educated in that area and graduated from Bowbells High School in 1932. She then attended college. On April 17, 1937, she married Christian Jessen in Kenmare, ND. They lived and farmed near Niobe, ND. Martha worked at the Kenmare Baptist Home for 18 years. She lived on her own until the last three months when she entered the Kenmare Baptist Home. Martha enjoyed reading, being with family, writing, gardening and listening to the television and music. Survivors: Sons, Larry (Arlene) Jessen, and Robert (Susan) Jessen, all of Kenmare, William (Rose) Jessen, Mesa, AZ, and Ernest (Janet) Jessen, Denver, CO; nine grandchildren, Randy, Kristie, Lynette, Andrea, Glen, Kenny, Konnie, Corrin and Brian; 16 great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren and numerous step great-grandchildren; sisters, Lauretta Walker, Swea City, IA, and Vera (George) Dilger, Missoula, MT; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ebenhardt, Ernest, Thorvald, Fred, George and David; sisters, Christine, Geneva, Clara and Agnes. Funeral: Friday, August 8, 2003, at 2:00 p.m., at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, ND. Visitation: Thursday, August 7, 2003, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, ND. Burial: A private burial will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND. Officiant: Rev. Dick Owens |
