Wilbur Jensen 1918 - 2006

Wilbur L. Jensen, 87, Westhope, ND, formerly of Minot, ND, died Friday, September 1, 2006, in a Westhope nursing home.

Wilbur was born on November 12, 1918, the son of Edward and Alma (Culver) Jensen in Tolley, ND. He was raised and educated in Tolley. As a young adult, he assisted his parents with the operation of the family farm.

He enlisted in the US Army April 1, 1941. He proudly served his country during WWII and was awarded the American Defense Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the EAME Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on September 23, 1945.

Wilbur married Deloris Schmidt on May 24, 1944, in Tolley. They made there home in Lonetree until 1960, when they moved to Minot. Wilbur was employed by Chevy Garage in Minot for a number of years. In 1969, he began employment with the Minot Public Schools as a custodian until he retired in 1984.

Wilbur and Deloris moved to North Carolina for a short time in 2000, before returning to North Dakota. They both entered the Westhope Nursing Home in January of 2001. Deloris passed away on February 15, 2002. Wilbur had continued to reside there.

He was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot, and also attended services at the Westhope Nursing Home. He had also been a member of the AFL-CIO Local 52 since 1969.

He enjoyed having a "little one," his chew, and playing pool.

Surviving family includes: sons, Edward (Betty) Jensen, Racine, WI, Bruce (Beverly) Jensen, Coopersburg, PA, Roger Jensen, Wilmington, NC, Ronald (Laurie) Jensen, Bismarck, ND, and Brian Jensen, Minot, ND; daughter, MaryLou (Paul) Baker, Wilmington, NC; former daughter-in-law, Teri Jensen, Minot; 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Deloris; son, William; daughter, Linda; granddaughter, Linda; twin sister, Winnie; and a brother, Charles.

Funeral: Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Monday from 10 am to 2 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9 am to service time at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
