Amelia Jensen 1912 - 2009 Amelia Clara Schacher was born December 10, 1912, the daughter of Andrew and Katherin (Pfiefle) Schacher, Sr., in Washburn, ND. She was raised and educated in Washburn. Amelia married Otto Bietz in Washburn. From this union a son, Arlie, was born. In 1942, the couple divorced. Amelia worked as a telephone operator in Washburn, until being transferred to Hazelton, ND. She and her son, Arlie, then moved to Bismarck, ND, where she worked as a telephone operator at the State Capitol for a time and later at the Dakota National Bank. On January 2, 1950, Amelia married Charles A. Jensen at the Bismarck Baptist Church in Bismarck. From this union, a son, Dennis, was born in 1954. In 1957, Amelia and her family moved to the Andrew Lawson farm 11 miles NE of Kenmare. Charlie passed away February 14, 1969. Following Charlie's death, she moved into Kenmare, and was employed by Pete and Allan Essler with Farmers Union Insurance. She continued to work there until her retirement in 1977. She was a former member of Washburn Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school for a number of years and was a member of the ladies aid. She then had her membership transferred to Faith Baptist Church of Kenmare, where she also taught Sunday school and was a member of the ladies aid. Amelia enjoyed crocheting afghans, doilies and other items for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with her relatives and friends. The last King size quilt she made was in 1995 for her friends, Tina and Millie. When she was unable to quilt, she then embroidered a set of 7 sets for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and our Missionaries and friends. Then due to ill health, she sent greeting and remembrance cards to friends in the hospital, and home health care centers once a month. She also loved to write, read her Bible and many other good books.
