Joan Elise Janz 1945 - 2006

Joan Elise Janz, 61, 5207 29 St NW, Ryder, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at her home.

Joan (Kraft) Janz was born to Joseph and Rosina (Meyer) Kraft on February 26, 1945 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND. She was raised and educated in Ryder, graduating in 1963. She then attended NDSU, Fargo in 1963 and 1964. Joan worked at Meyer Medical Service in Ryder for her uncle Loren Meyer for many years. Allen and Joan were married at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Ryder on December 5, 1964. They lived in and near Makoti for seven years before buying the Ole Anderson farm in Blue Hill Township, rural Ryder. They moved their house in October 1971. They have two sons, Neil and Kent, who grew up knowing how good farm life can be. Joan was an avid gardener. She also drove grain truck at harvest time. She enjoyed picture scrap booking, genealogy, and crocheting. The light of Joan's life was her family.

She served on the St. Johns Lutheran Church board in Ryder. She taught Sunday school and was active in ladies aide. She was in quilting and home economics club. She was on the women of the ELCA Synodical board for western North Dakota from July 1989 to July 1995. Joan served as the Blue Hill Township assessor. She was a 4-H leader and served on the Ryder school alumni board.

Joan is survived by her husband, Allen of 41 years, Ryder; sons, Neil (Katie) Janz, Voltaire, ND, and Kent Janz and (Heather Severance), Ryder; grandchildren, Braden and Riley Janz, sons of Kent, and Cole and Austin Janz, sons of Neil and Katie; brother, David (Lyla) Kraft, Ryder; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rosina (Meyer) Kraft.

Memorials are preferred to St. Johns Lutheran Church in Ryder or Lutheran Social Services.

Funeral: Saturday, March 18, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Ryder.

Visitation: Friday from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home in Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Cemetery, Ryder, ND

Memorials preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church, Ryder, or to the Lutheran Social Service.
