Margaret Doris Jacobson
1919 - 2005 Margaret Doris Jacobson, 86, Kenmare, formerly of Norma and Tolley, died Wednesday, August 10, 2005, in the Kenmare Hospital. Margaret Doris Iverson was born on January 12, 1919, in rural Donnybrook, ND, the daughter of homesteaders, Soren and Maggie (Larsen) Iverson. She attended country school in Ivanhoe Township, Renville County, and graduated from Tolley High School in 1936. Following her graduation, she attended the State Normal School in Minot, and began her teaching career in Wheellock, ND in 1938. Over the years Doris taught school in Sauk Prairie, Ivanhoe, Rockford, Stafford and Grover Townships, all of Renville County, and Ward County. Doris also taught school in Mohall, Flaxton, Norma, Sherwood, Kenmare, and retired in Tolley, ND. Doris married Arthur Jacobson on December 27, 1945 in Plentywood, MT. To this union were born five sons, Allen, Larry, Roger, Mark, Greg, and one daughter, Carol. Arthur passed away in 1974. Following his death, Margaret continued to live in the Norma/Tolley area, before moving into Kenmare. Doris was honored as a "Gold Star Mother" when her son Larry was killed in action in Vietnam in 1970. In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and the company of her numerous friends. Her close friends will also recall her beloved cat, Fluffy. Doris attended the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare. She was also an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tolley. She was a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Kenmare, and was a member of the Tolley Senior Citizens. She also sat on the Americans with Disabilities Act board in Renville County. Survivors: Sons: Allen Jacobson, Tolley, ND; Roger Jacobson, Mayville, ND; Mark Jacobson, Yokohama, Japan; Greg Jacobson, Tolley, ND. Daughter: Carol (Allen) Kuvaas, Pelican Rapids, MN; four grandsons: Michael (Laura) Kuvaas, Hutchinson, MN; Jay Kuvaas, Minneapolis, MN; Erik Kuvaas, St. Paul, MN; Nick Kuvaas, Pelican Rapids, MN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband of 29 years, Arthur, son, Larry, brothers, Alvin, Kenneth, Lester, Lawrence and sister, Bernice. Funeral: Saturday, August 13, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tolley, ND. Visitation: Saturday, August 13, 2005 one hour prior to the service in the church.
