Harold William Jacobson 1928 - 2004

Harold William Jacobson, 75, Oxbow Sask. died Friday, July 2, 2004, in an Oxbow hospital.

He was born on August 1, 1928, in Renville County, McKinney Township, ND, the son of William and Gertrude (Schwitzer) Jacobson

Harold attended country schools in the Norma area. He lived most of his adult live in Flaxton, however he served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy in 1945. He served in the Pacific Theater for four years, participated in the Operation Crossroads, and was stationed in Hawaii, the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, and San Diego. He was honorably discharged August 2, 1949. He married Marie Wolkenhauer on July 31, 1952. He worked for various farmers in the Northgate area until he started farming on his own. He then worked in Tacoma and Spokane, WA for several winters and also for I. J. Wilhite (Star Drilling Company) in the Williston Basin.

Harold was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He cherished his family and was proud of them and had good reason to be. Harold and Marie would incorporate their winter travels to include family member visits and to offer his design and construction expertise for various projects he had in mind for each household.

Harold's passion was ham radio operating where he achieved the highest license classification of "extra". He was a national examiner for the American Amateur Radio League. He enjoyed designing, making, and testing antennas. He attended international, national, and regional ham events and made many friends throughout the years. The past several winters were spent in Arizona and southern California.

Harold had a soft spot in his heart for animals. He had several pets, and most recently his dog AntonioNeedAHome, "Tony".

Harold was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Flaxton. He held several positions on the church board including secretary, vice president, and president. He also served as a president and vice president of the joint parish. He was a member of the Flaxton Fire Department, and a 50-year member of the Flaxton American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Marie, son Charles (JoAnn), Oxbow, Sask, Corrine Bruns, (Ken), Waco, NE, Donna Schmit (Michael), Kenmare, ND, Gail Gerber (Bill), Bragg Creek, AB, eight grandchildren, Sheri and Brant (Jamie) Jacobson, Amity and Abigail Bruns, Jamie (Shawn) Whitney, Melinda, Tyler, and Kaleen Schmit, and three great grandchildren, Sofia Jacobson and Dustin and Brett Whitney, three brothers, Ray, Tacoma, WA, William Jr, Federal Way, WA, and Gordon, Fairfield, CA, two sisters, Delores Rodgers, Vienna, VA, and Diania Johnson, Underwood, ND and aunt, Doris Jacobson, Kenmare, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Margaret Hagen and Sharon Olheiser, brothers, Donavon , Howard and Carl (Laverne) Jacobson, and a grandson, Jacob Schmit.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Flaxton.

Visitation: Tuesday, July 6, 2004, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.

Burial: Flaxton Community Cemetery, Flaxton, ND.
