LeRoy Arnold Huizenga, 73, Lisbon, formerly of Minot, died from cancer on Monday, July 28, 2008, in Lisbon, ND. He had been a resident of the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon from August 2004 to the time of his death.

He was born in Minot on Nov. 17, 1934 to Arthur and Sarah Huizenga. He grew up on the family farm north of Minot and graduated from Minot Model High School, where he played on the football team. He attended Minot Business College and worked for Bridgeman Creamery for about 45 years before retiring.

He was in the North Dakota National Guard when he was drafted into the Army. He served in Heilbronn, West Germany, from June 25, 1957, to June 10, 1959.

He was married to Betty Kraft with whom he had two children, Leroy and Mariah. His favorite pastimes included bowling, playing his steel guitar, and fishing for walleye on Lake Sakakawea.

Survivors: son, Rev. Dr. Leroy Andrew Huizenga and his wife Kari, and their infant son, Hans Arnold, of Wheaton, Ill.; daughter, Mariah Audrey Huizenga, of Minot; brothers, Harry, of Golden, Colo.; Ed, of San Francisco; sisters, Alice Cramer, of Chicago; May Saastad and Helen Mork, both of Minot.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Audrey, who was 10 at the time of her death; brothers, Orrie and Bob.

Funeral: Saturday at 10 a.m. at Bread of Life Lutheran Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
