Guy Huff 1923 - 2004

Guy E. Huff, 80, 825-33rd Ave SW, Minot, ND, died Monday, November 15, 2004, in a Minot nursing home.

Guy Everett Huff was born on December 10, 1923, the son of Claude and Ruby (Bergo) Huff in Donnybrook, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Donnybrook High School in 1942. After taking the Book of Rules for the Great Northern Railroad, he began employment and worked for a short time.

He entered the US Army on May 19, 1943, and was stationed overseas in China, Burma, and India Theater. He served with the 726th RR battalion at Ledo, India. He was honorably discharged on February 18, 1946.

Guy was married to Bernice Anderson on December 12, 1945, in Sedro Woolley, Washington. In the following years, they made their home in Berthold, Des Lacs, and Larson, ND, where Guy worked as a depot agent. Finally, they moved to Minot in 1951, where he continued his employment with the Great Northern Railroad and retired as a traveling agent from the Burlington Northern Railroad in June of 1982.

Guy was a member of the Eagles, Elks, and the American Legion. He was a lifetime member of the Minot Gun Club, where he served as manager for several years and as president for a one year term.

Guy enjoyed hunting and fishing at Deep Water Bay, where they had spent many summers. They spent their winters in Mesa, AZ, for 17 years. He also enjoyed trapshooting at the Gun Club, gardening, and built numerous houses in the Minot area. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

His loving family includes: wife of 58 years: Bernice E. Huff, Minot; sons: Larry B. (Kathy) Huff of Inner Grove Heights, MN; and Mark E. (Clarice) Huff of Sacramento, CA; daughters: Cindy B. (Scott) Merchant of Bloomington, MN;grandchildren: Sam Allen Merchant, Sarah Lynn Merchant, Robyn Kae (Andrew) Huff-Eibl and Jessica Ann (Sean) Ulrich;great-grandchildren: Marcus and Micaela Eibl;brothers: Dayton (Amelia) Huff, Robert (Gail) Huff, both of Donnybrook; Thomas (Bonnie) Huff of Minot, sisters: Jeanne (James) Kaufer; Delores (Warren) Paulson, both of Minot; Betty (Ronald) Gibler of Pacific Grove, CA; Barbara (Robert) Lee of Richard, WA; and Bonnie (Larry) Lee of Bellingham, WA;sister-in-law: Patti Huff of Donnybrook; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Ruby Huff; and a brother, Ralph Huff.

Funeral: Friday, November 19, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Thursday, November 18, 2004, from Noon until 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church, the Dakota Boys Ranch, or to the donor's choice.
