Selma Howe 1906 - 2003

Selma Howe, 97, Velva, ND, formerly of Bergen, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, in the home of her son.

She was born March 20, 1906, to Peter and Gertie Pederson at rural Bergan, ND. She attended grade school in the Golden Grain School District and graduated from Bergen High School in 1924. On June 22, 1929, she married Merrill Howe in Towner. The couple made their home on Selma's family farm in Lake Hester Township, McHenry County, where they raised crops and had dairy cattle. Her husband Merrill preceded her in death in August of 1973. She lived her entire life on the family farm until moving into Velva to live with her son, Roger.

Selma was a member of Hjerdahl Lutheran Church, Voltaire. Selma was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, baking and yard work.

Selma is survived by one son, Roger P. (Phyllis) Howe of Velva. Six grandchildren, six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merrill, a sister, Christine Pederson and a daughter, Myrtle Marler.

Funeral: Thursday, May 1, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva.

Burial: Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bergen.

Visitation: noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Velva.

Memorials are preferred to the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bergen.
