Dort Howery Sr. PhotoDort D. Howery Sr., 77, Minot died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in Minot.

Dort Dean Howery was born on February 28, 1932, a son of Floyd and Ann (Stead) Howery, in Westhope, ND. He was raised and educated in the Westhope/Antler area.

On December 15, 1952, Dort enlisted into the US Navy. He proudly served his country, receiving the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on March 5, 1954 in Norfolk, VA.

On February 16, 1955, Dort was united in marriage to Doris A. McConn in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where Dort worked for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads, and later at the Minot Eagles club. Doris died December 17, 2009.

Dort was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge and a member of the Minot American Legion for over 50 years. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, and visiting with those who stopped by the house for coffee. Dort was especially proud of his two grandchildren Jenness and Jackson.

Son: Dort Howery Jr., Eugene OR, two grandchildren: Jenness and Jackson Howery, Eugene, OR; brother: Dillard Howery, CA; sisters: Melba Hallgren, Williston, ND, Crystal Boehm, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dort was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, brother Garford and sister Marjorie.

Visitation:  Monday, February 22, 2010, from 3:00 until 7:00 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service:  Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 11 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot

Burial:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
