Doris A. Howery 1935 - 2009

Doris Howery PhotoDoris A. Howery, 74, Minot, died Thursday, December 17, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Doris Ann McConn was born on March 26, 1935, a daughter of Ray and Anna (Brandon) McConn in Minot, ND. She was raised and educated in northeast Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1953, while in high school, she worked for the Minot Public Library. Following her graduation from Minot Business College, she worked for Peavey Grain Elevator.

On February 16, 1955 she was united in marriage to Dort Howery in Minot. Doris began working for the Ward County Public Library and was well known as the “bookmobile lady” a job she treasured for over 30 years, retiring in 1997. She always enjoyed the kids of the bookmobile, even in her retirement years, keeping track of their children and sometimes grandchildren.

Doris was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and visiting with people that stopped by the house for coffee. Her two grandchildren, Jenness and Jackson, where very important to her, and they will miss her dearly.

Surviving family includes:  Husband of 54 years, Dort Howery Sr., Minot, son: Dort Howery Jr. , Eugene, OR; two grandchildren: Jenness and Jackson Howery, Eugene, OR; brother: Charles “Red” McConn, Minot; sister: Ida Mae KuKull, Denison, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Don, Marvin, Levi, Gordon, and sisters Helen Ferrell and Lorice McConnell

Visitation: Monday, December 21, 2009 from 3-7 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral service: Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 11 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot

Officiant: Rev. Janet Hernes-Mathistad

Immediately following the graveside service there will be lunch and fellowship in the fellowship hall, located in the lower level of the church.

The Howery family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Doris.
