Toini Hovland • 1925 - 2008

Toini Hovland, 83, Minot, ND, died Wednesday, December 31, 2009, in her home.

Toini Mary Hill was born September 24, 1925, a daughter of William and Mary (Niemitalo) Hill, in Belden, ND. She was raised and educated in Belden.

Toini married Ervin A. Hovland November 21, 1952, in Minot. They made their home in Minot until 1968, when they moved to the Seattle, WA, area. Ervin passed away December 21, 1999. Following the death of her husband, she continued to reside there until 2001, when she moved back to Minot.

Surviving family includes: children, Charlotte (Richard) McKay, Bozeman, MT, Kathryn (David) Duran, Long Beach, CA, Linda Hanson (Lance Mering), Minot, and Michael Hovland, Federal Way, WA; eight grandchildren; Lori Greenly, Michelle Cadwell, Chantelle Mahan, Larry and Jeremy Eklund, and Cameron, Chase and Cole Hovland; six great-grandchildren; Callie Kolble, Zachary Cadwell, Austin and Tyler Mahan, Cassie Greenly, and another great grandson on the way; sister, Irene Anderson, Ross, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Toini was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin; brothers, Ervin and John Hill; and sisters, Ina Nelson, Zelda "Sally" Pierson, Lempi Hill, and Esther Pelton.

It was Toini's wish not to have a funeral service in Minot.

A Memorial Service will take place at a later date in Kent, WA.

Interment will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA.

Visitation: Saturday, January 17, 2009, from Noon to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to Paralyzed Veterans of America or to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
