Lois V. Hove 1917 - 2002
Lois V. Hove, 84, 1608 6th St SW, Minot, died Wednesday, July
10, 2002, at her residence of natural causes.
She was born July 26, 1917, at Douglas, ND, the daughter of Herbert
and Hanna Young. She graduated from Ryder High School as Valedictorian
of her class in 1936, after enduring a bout of polio at age 14.
She felt very fortunate to be able to attend college at Jamestown,
ND, graduating in 1940.
After her college years she taught school in ND, at Hartland,
Max, Ray, Lansford, Columbus and in Minot at Erik Ramstad and
Bishop Ryan schools. She also taught in Montana at Highwood and
Glendive. She retired from teaching in 1980 after 31 years. Besides
teaching, Lois spent 10 years working at the 'Nifty Nook"
in Minot which was owned by her sister, De Lorez and also worked
at the YMCA.
On March 1, 1944, Lois married Arnold H. Hove in Fort Benton,
MT. They made their home in Minot since 1945. Arnold died in
1981.
Lois was a very dedicated teacher and enjoyed teaching. In Minot,
she taught English to junior and senior high students. Her daughter,
Lola remembers her mother spending long hours-correcting paper
- especially essays. She remained an avid reader after retirement
and kept up on current events.
Survivors: daughter, Lolamae Vasichek (Daryl); Great
Falls, MT; grandchildren, Gabriel, Daniel, and Julianne; great-granddaughter,
Ariana Newton; nieces, Verna Aleshire and Deloris Fix (Harold),
California; nephews, L. Bruce Whidden (Dee), Brigham City, UT,
Lorin Hove, Minot, Lenyce Simmons, Ryder, Lerri Giffey, Minot
and Glen Hansen (Joyce) Glendive, MT; great niece, Kimberly Aleshire-Brown
and her sons, Zachary and Travis Brown; great nephews, David
Aleshire (Linda) and their children, Matthew and Sarah Aleshire
and Todd Aleshire (Christie); sister-in-law, Alta Hove, Ryder,
ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold and six siblings,
De Lorez Johnson, Dorothy Hansen, Verna Young, Vernon, Jerome
and Donald Young.
Memorial Service: Saturday, July 27, 2002, at 2 p.m. at
the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.
Friends may sign a register just prior to the service.
Burial: A private internment will take place at Rosehill
Memorial Park, Minot.
