Jack H. Houston 1935 - 2005

Jack H. Houston, 69, 10701 Hwy 2 & 52 West, Burlington, died suddenly in Boerne, TX, on March 4, 2005.

Jack was born December 29, 1935, the son of Harold and Armilla (McCarthy) Houston, in Minot, ND. He attended grade school in Burlington and graduated from Minot High School in 1953.

Jack married Dixie Ann Albin, August 5, 1959, in Minot. Jack worked for the Minot Fire Department from 1959-1961. They then moved to Missoula, MT, where Jack worked in the logging industry, as well as the Missoula Rural Fire Department for 8 years. They moved to Burlington in 1972. Jack joined the Minot Air Force Base Fire Department. He started out as a driver and rose through the ranks to become the Assistant to Chief Operations. He retired in 1992. Jack helped restructure the Burlington Fire District, and updated the training and equipment. He served as Fire Chief of Burlington Volunteer Fire Department from 1979 until 1986. He served on the board of Directors of the Burlington Fire District. He also spent time working for the Burlington Community Housing apartments, and as a courtesy driver for the Minot Chrysler Center.

The last four years, Jack and Dixie have wintered in Boerne, TX. They spent their summers camping with dear friends. The past four years at the Mouse River Park.

Jack's greatest joy was his family. He loved them all so much, his children, their spouses and 11 grandchildren. He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren in their sports and activities. He was very proud of them, and will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Burlington.

Sister-in-law: Dorean (Jack)Stueckrath, Plainview, NE, Brother-in-law: Dennis (Jean) Albin, Shawnee, KS: Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by: his mother Armilla

Visitation: Friday, March 11, 2005 from noon until 7:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Saturday, March 12, at 10:00 at Peace Lutheran Church, Burlington, ND.

Burial: Burlington Community Cemetery, Burlington, ND
