Lois Horst 1934 - 2006


Lois Horst, 72, Minot, ND, died Friday, September 8, 2006, in a Minot nursing home.

Lois Wilma Mattern was born on March 16, 1934, the daughter of Elbridge and Viola (Armstrong) Mattern on a farmstead north of Tolley, ND. She was raised on the family farm and attended grades one through six at Grover and Bail School, rural Tolley, ND. She then attended the seventh and eighth grade at Lorraine School, Lorraine, ND. Following her graduation from the eighth grade, she assisted her parents with the operation of the family farm. She then worked as a private housekeeper for a short time. In the 1950's, she was employed by Minot Steam & Laundry.

Lois was married to Wesley L. Horst on March 28, 1959, in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where she continued working at Minot Steam & Laundry, until her son, Jerry, was born. Wesley passed away on July 10, 2005.

She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and watching the Minnesota Twins. Her family was very important to her. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed hearing about her two grandchildren's' activities.

Surviving family includes:
son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Horst, Minot; grandchildren, Andrew Mitchell Horst and Kayla Rebecca Horst; sisters, Darlene (Lowell) Sannes, Seattle, WA, Ardis (William) Heimbush, Arvada, CO, and Elsie (Bob) Aschenbrenner, Surrey, ND; brothers, Orville (Norma) Mattern, Kenmare, ND; and Ray (Marlyn) Mattern, Minot, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Wesley.

Funeral: Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at West Minot Church of God, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the book on Tuesday from 9 am to 11 am at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
