Wesley L. Horst 1919 - 2005

Wesley L. Horst, 85, 727 5th St. NE, Minot, ND, died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at a Minot hospital.

Wesley Leroy Horst was born on October 26, 1919, the son of Harry and Minnie (Bender) Horst in Fertile Township of Mountrail County, rural Parshall, ND. He was raised in the Parshall area and attended country schools there. He then began work for the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1940 to 1941.

He enlisted into the US Army on November 12, 1942, in Fort Snelling, MN. He served in Europe during WWII with the 11th Armored Division out of Camp Polk, LA. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 11, 1946, in Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.

Wesley married Lois W. Mattern on March 28, 1959, in Minot. They made their home in Minot. He had worked for at M&H Gas Station for a short while, but for most of his life, was employed as a mechanic by Stearns Motors, Montgomery Ward, Nelson Motors, and Krebsbachs Motors.

He was a member of the Velva American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, listening to Twins games, and visiting with friends and family.

Surviving family includes: wife of 46 years, Lois of Minot, son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Horst of Minot, grandchildren, Andrew Mitchell Horst and Kayla Rebecca Horst, sisters, Sadie Knuth of Minot, and Florence (Tom) Williams of San Diego, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elsie Morris and Edna Horst, brothers, Luther, Chester, Howard, and Link Horst.

Funeral: Thursday, July 14, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at West Minot Church of God, Minot, ND.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: There will not be a reviewal, but friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 9 am until noon at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
