James D. Hogoboom 1931 - 2011
James D. Hogoboom, 79, died Monday, February 14, 2011 in his home at 1900 28 St. SW, Minot, ND.
He was born June 25, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN a son of Dudley and Gwen (Gardner) Hogoboom. Their family moved to Lakota, ND when Jim was a freshman in high school. He graduated from Lakota High School in 1950. He then served for three years in the US Army, from 1950 until 1953, during the Korean War. He then attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, and graduated in 1954 with a degree in telephone technology.
He worked for Western Electric in the Northwest Territories for 13 months. He then moved to Crosby, ND where he worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone, transferring to Minot in 1957. He remained with Northwestern Bell Telephone until his retirement in 1990.
Jim was active in the Knights of Columbus and the Kiwanis. He was once a Cub Scout Master and president of the Communication Workers of America. He enjoyed his friends while square dancing, camping and with the Northern Lights Good Sam Chapter. He had an extensive collection of HO trains. He once ran the projector at the Empire Theatre. He was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot.
Jim met his wife, the former Margaret Rambur, in 1960 when they both worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone. Jim was an equipment man and Margaret was a long distance operator. They were married on June 24, 1961 in Parshall, ND. They bought their home at 509 15 ½ Ave. SW in Minot and had lived there until recently moving to Somerset Court. Jim passed away 50 years to the day since he proposed to Margy.
Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, James Scott Hogoboom and his wife Kimberly of Minot; daughters, Betty Leith and her husband David of Stanley, ND, and Diane Aarseth and her husband Larry of Minot; grandchildren, James G. and Samantha Hogoboom, Deanna, Scott, Anika, Grant, Trent and Brett Leith, and Joseph, Catherine, Alexander and Elizabeth Jorde; sisters, Beverly Vejarano and her husband Carlos of Tucson, AZ and Marion Heydon of Ft. Benton, MT; sisters-in-law, Frances Landwehr of Plains, MT, Helen Iverson of Minot, and Isabell Rubel of Necedah, WI; brothers-in-law, Leo Rambur of Plains, MT and Bill Rambur and his wife Betty of Bonita, CA. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Patricia Wolfgram and her husband Ken and Janet Anderson; brother-in-law, Richard Heydon; son-in-law, Jerome Jorde; mother and father-in-law, Henry and Rose Rambur; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Art Landwehr, John and Margy Rambur, Irvin Iverson, Betty Rose Rambur, Bernard Rubel and Robert and Rosie Potter.
Funeral: Friday, February 18, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Service; Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
