Herman Himmerick, 83, Velva, ND, formerly of Bottineau, passed away Monday, March 5, 2007, in the Souris Valley Care Center, Velva.

Herman Phillip Himmerick was born September 8, 1923, the son of Henry and Katherine (Weickum) Himmerick in Roscoe, South Dakota. As a young child, he and his family moved to North Dakota. He graduated from Rogers High School, Rogers, ND, in 1943.

Herman was married to Laurel W. Johnson January 10, 1953, in Steele, ND. He was employed as an electrician for 36 years at various electrical companies in North Dakota. He also was a State Electrical Inspector for 6 years. He retired from North Central Electric Co-Op, Bottineau, ND, in 1982. They continued to reside in Bottineau until 1997, when they moved to Velva, ND. They had continued to reside in Velva since.

Herman was a member of United Methodist Church, Velva. He enjoyed woodworking, carving, playing card games, board games, reading, hunting, fishing, and playing with his grandchildren.

Surviving family includes: wife of 54 years, Laurel, Velva; daughters, Cherrie (Peter) Thomas, Velva, and Lauren (Mickey) Anderson, Sawyer; son, Gayle (Marian) Himmerick, Minot; seven grandsons, Tom (Wendy) Thomas, Steve (Nicky) Thomas; Allen (Kimberly) Anderson, Ryan (Hope) Anderson; Robert, Brian, and Daniel Himmerick; one granddaughter, Amy (Erick) Nelson; three great-grandsons, Carter Thomas, Luke Anderson and Joshua Anderson; one great-granddaughter; Keira Anderson; sister, Amy (Arnold) Anderson, Valley City, ND; brothers, Ervin (Bernice) Himmerick, New Richland, MN, and Herbert (Jean) Himmerick, San Luis Obispo, CA, Melvin (Jessie) Himmerick, Tacoma, WA; and several nieces and nephews.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents; twin grandsons, Joseph and James Himmerick; brothers, Arthur and Henry, Jr.; sisters, Lucille Meath, Alma Handy, and Eileen Spriggle.

Funeral: Saturday, March 10, 2007, at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Velva.
Interment: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva, ND.

Visitation: Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.

Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor's choice.
