She attended elementary school in Perigord and graduated from high school in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, Canada. She moved to Minot in 1934, and attended Minot State Teachers College. She lived with her aunt and uncle, Ethel and Leo Lindemann.

Frances married Robert R. Hill in Sidney, MT, in 1941. They resided on their farm near Logan, ND, until his death on November 17, 1952, at the age of 49.
