Donna L. Heskin • 1930 - 2009

Donna L. Heskin, 79, Minot, formerly of Norwich, ND, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Donna Lou Thompson was born March 9, 1930, in Noonan, ND, the daughter of Lloyd and Mae (Gunderson) Thompson.  Donna graduated from Noonan High School.  She worked as a waitress in Minot, where she met her future-husband, Alvin.

On October 7, 1951, Donna married Alvin Heskin in Augusta, GA, where Alvin was stationed in the United States Army.  In 1953, they moved back to North Dakota making their home on the family farmstead near Norwich, where they raised their family and farmed.  Alvin passed away in 1978.  Donna moved to Minot in 1982 and was once married to Oscar Peterson.  She spent her later years at Brentmoor Assisted Living. 

Donna was a member of Norwich Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.  She was also a member of Homemakers and the Norwich Area Ladies Birthday Club

Donna loved her children and grandchildren and had a very strong relationship with God.  She loved listening to music, taking pictures and sharing them with others and watching and feeding birds.  Donna was a caregiver to many people.  She was very special to many and will be greatly missed.

Those Who Shared In Her Life: Sons, Neale (Janet) Heskin, New Rockford, Kim (Lila) Heskin, Norwich, and Kris (Debbie) Heskin, Garrison; daughters, Nancy (Bob) Rakness, Minot and Shelley Heskin, Glen Ullin; twelve grandchildren, Stacie Heskin (Justin Norris), Cody Heskin (Chantel Manz), Alisa Heskin, Ann (Steve) Klein, Kerry Bailey (Jodi Brossart), Bobby Rakness (Heather Peery), Kristy (Jerry) Kuntz, Brian Heskin, Zachary Heskin (Katrina Voness), Kaleb Heskin, Adam Heskin, and Thomas Heskin; two great-grandchildren, Sharon Norris and Tatyn Heskin; sister, Shirley Burner, Minot.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Heskin; her parents, Lloyd and Mae (Gunderson) Thompson; sister, Sherry Jenson; brothers, Laverne, DeWayne, James and Dale Thompson and former husband, Oscar Peterson

Visitation: Sunday, January 3, 2010, from noon until 7 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot with a prayer service at 7 in the chapel.

Funeral Service: Monday, January 4, 2010, at 11:00 am at the Norwich Lutheran Church, Norwich, ND

Burial: Norwich Lutheran Cemetery, Norwich, ND.

Everyone is invited to join the family in the lower level of the church for lunch and fellowship.  Those not attending the graveside service may begin the luncheon. The family will join you at the conclusion of the graveside service.

The Heskin family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Donna.
