Lillian Herzberg 1917 - 2010

Lillian Herzberg PhotoLillian Herzberg, 92, Minot, ND, formerly of Carpio, ND, died Thursday, February 18, 2010, in a Minot nursing home.

Lillian Louise Carlson was born August 22, 1917, a daughter of Carl and Gladys (Bryant) Carlson, in rural Greene, ND. She was raised north of Carpio and attended Tolley Schools, graduating in 1934.

Lillian married Leslie F. Herzberg December 10, 1935, in Mohall, ND. They made their home on a farm north of Carpio, where they raised their family. In 1957, they moved into Carpio. Lillian worked at the Carpio Post Office, Stickney’s Café, and as a cook at the Carpio School for many years. Leslie passed away in July of 1981. Following her husband’s death, she continued to reside in Carpio.

In 1987, she moved to Minot to live with her daughter, Darlene, and in 2005, she moved into Trinity Homes, Minot.

She was a member of Carpio Lutheran Church, and Callahan Homemakers Club, both of Carpio, and the Royal Neighbors of America.

She enjoyed doing craft work, reading, playing cards, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, music, traveling, and anything that had to do with kids.  

Surviving family includes
children, Darlene Rostad, Minot, Joanne Branson (Steve Larson), Minot, Gerald (Sharon) Herzberg, Grand Prairie, TX, and Mark Herzberg, Fairbanks, AK, daughter-in-law, Sandy Herzberg, Pea Ridge, AR; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren;  4 great great-grandchildren and two more on the way; sisters, Lucille Runke, Hutchinson, MN, and Marvel Wanous, Hutchinson, MN; brothers-in-law, Harold (Viola) Herzberg, and Bud Clementich; sisters-in-law, Mary Herzberg and Mabel Herzberg; and several nieces and nephews.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie; son, Ronald Herzberg; daughter, Janice Halseth; sons-in-law, Bob Halseth, and Glenn Rostad; great-grandson, Christopher Seideman; and brother Walt (Gerri) Carlson.

Memorial Service: Friday, February 26, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio.

Interment:
  First Lutheran Cemetery, Carpio, ND, at a later date.

Visitation: 
There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Immediately following the memorial service, please join the family for a time of fellowship and lunch in the fellowship hall. The graveside service will take place at a later date in the spring.
