L. Herda • 1923 - 2006 Raymond "Ray" L. Herda, 82, Kongsberg, ND, died Sunday, February 26, 2006, at a Bismarck hospital. He was born on June 16, 1923, at Kongsberg, ND, the son of Anthony and Lillian (DeWitt) Herda. He attended country school in rural Kongsberg and at the age of 14 took over the family farm where he farmed and ranched until his death. Ray married Mildred Louise Howard on February 2, 1947, at the Kongsberg parsonage. When Ray was not farming he and Mildred loved to play pinochle. Ray was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Kongsberg, where he served as treasurer for many years. He also served on the Butte Township Board as a Supervisor and was active with the Butte Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors: wife of 59 years, Mildred, Kongsberg; son, Ronald Herda, Hume, MO; daughters, Sheryl (LaVerne) Anderson, Voltaire, Gail (Daniel) Berg, Gillette, WY, Connie (John) Plesuk and Brenda (Steve) Nush, all of Minot; grandchildren, Ronnie and Ryan Herda, Earl Anderson, Tina (Gerald) Gordon, Neil Anderson, Jennifer (John) Elkins, Kerri and Chelsea Berg, Sara Plesuk, Eva (Shawn) Biddinger, John Plesuk, John and Jessica Nush; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Lillian, brothers, Albert and Tony, sisters, Irene (Glenn) Rasmuson, Ethel (Francis) Hatchard, Verna (Don) Sanders, and grandson, Steven Berg. Funeral Service: Friday, March 3, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Max, ND. Visitation: Thursday, March 2, 2006, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva, ND. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Kongsberg, ND.
