Mabel Josephine Helwig 1915 - 2011 Mabel was born May 31, 1915 in Coulee, ND to Hans and Christine Rasmusson, pioneers who settled on a farm at the turn of the century. Preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; parents; brothers, Oscar, Theodore, John; sisters, Hannah Meyers, Edna Steen, Sue Egger; Grandchild, Tammy Ridl; Great-Grandchildren, Katelyn Harris and Elizabeth Harris. Survived by children Roger (Lorraine)Helwig, Donald Helwig, Shirley Lucy, Joan Erickson; 20 Grandchildren, 48 Great Grandchildren, 15 Great-Great- Grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and friends. Mabel was a life time resident of the Coulee/Donnybrook area. A hardworking woman, Mabel was an excellent gardener able to grow anything she touched from beautiful Geraniums year round to the sweetest plums from a seed tossed in the front yard. Mabel enjoyed quilting, painting, wood working, braiding rugs as well as baking her famous lefse. Above all, Mabel’s greatest joy was being surrounded by family and friends, to whom she gave unconditional love and support. Her strength and wisdom have always been and will continue to be an inspiration. She will be greatly missed. Per her request a closed casket visitation will be Monday, January 9 from 4-7 pm at Thompson –Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND. Private funeral service to be held. Interment at Lake View Cemetery Kenmare, ND, Tuesday at 1:30 pm. Lunch to follow at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare. All are welcome to join the family at this time.
