Magdalen Helen Heit, 87, Minot, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Magdalen Feist was born May 26, 1921 on the family farm in McHenry County, near Karlsruhe, ND, to Benedict and Dorothy (Streifel) Feist. She was raised and attended school in Karlsruhe.

On October 22, 1940, Magdalen married George Heit at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe. Following their marriage they farmed near Balfour, Bergen, Karlsruhe and Towner, before moving to Glenburn in 1946. They lived and farmed in the Glenburn area until 1980, when they retired and moved to Minot. George passed away on September 19, 1994.

While living in Glenburn, Magdalen was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church and St. Philomena's Altar Society. In Minot she was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church and later became a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. She was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

Magdalen enjoyed farm life and was always around to help her husband. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many dresses for her daughters. She also did much of the sewing work for St. Philomena Catholic Church in Glenburn and painted many of the statues in the church. Magdalen was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends. She loved to dance with her husband, to walz and polka music. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was known to spoil them a time or two. Magdalen was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed.

Those who shared in her life, daughters, Charlene Boehmer, Bismarck, ND and Marlene (Garyl) Gartner, Mandan; sons, James (Mary Ann) Heit, Simi Valley, CA and Edward (Jean) Heit, Glenburn, ND; ten grandchildren, Scott (Deanna) Heit, Melissa (Justin) Payne, Mindy Jo (Mike) Halvorson, Michael Heit, Jeffrey Heit, Heather (David) Papotta, Gerud (Michelle) Hetland, Heath Hetland, Amanda (Darian) Miskewycz and Brad Boehmer; eleven great-grandchildren, Boden Papotta, Sierra and Jaden Payne, Lindsay and Hunter Heit, Makenzie and Mallory Halvorson, Brody, Lola, Molly and Madeline Hetland; brother, Bennie (Irene) Feist, Minot; sisters, Dorothy Hager and Ann Schaan, both in Minot, Barbara Bruner, Yakima, WA, Kay Fahy, Boise, ID, Caroline (Dan) Goebel, Meridian Idaho; sisters-in-law, Bertha Feist, Minot and Alice Feist, Harvey; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Magdalen was preceded in death by her husband, George; son, Joseph and a second stillborn son; her parents, Ben and Dorothy; sister, Christine Kupser, brothers, Tony, Frank and Paul Feist; sister-in-law, Marlene Feist; brothers-in-law, Joe Kupser, Frank Hager, Andrew Bruner, Joe Schaan and Pat Fahy.

Funeral: Saturday, March 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation Friday, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND in the spring.
