John Heinze 1933 - 2002

John H. Heinze, 68, 1128 23 St NW, Minot, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at his residence.

John was born December 18, 1933, on the family farm south of Van Hook, ND, the son of August J. and Mary (Anton) Heinze. He attended school in Van Hook and graduated from Van Hook High School in 1952. Following high school he went to work on the Four Bears Bridge before moving to Minot in the fall of 1952. He married Sharon Eckert on August 13, 1960 in Minot. He went to work for the Great Northern Railroad Section Crew for a time and then at Bostow's Mobil Gas Station, all in Minot. John served 38 years with the ND Army National Guard HHC/64 Engineering Battalion and worked full time at the National Guard maintenance shop in Minot from 1965 until his retirement in December, 1993. John took great pride in volunteering as Santa Claus for Arrowhead Shopping Center for many years.

John was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge, Eagles Aerie, and the Seventh Cavalry, all of Minot.

John is survived by his wife, Sharon Heinze, Minot; brother, Robert Heinze, Minot; sisters, Helen (Larry) Buettner, Walla Walla, WA, Evelyn (Joe) Klein, Minot, and Delores (Dale) DuPaul, N. St. Paul, MN; sister-in-law, Trudy (Robert) Wimer, Fargo, ND; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral: Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 10:30 am at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation: Tuesday, June 4, 2002, from noon until 5:00 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Rosary Recitation and Prayer Service: Tuesday at 7:00 pm at St. John's Catholic Church.

Burial: Wednesday, at 2:00 pm at Foxholm, ND.
