Kathy Ann "Kate"
Headrick 1951 - 2007 Kathy Ann "Kate" Haakenstad was born August 27, 1951 in Bottineau, ND, the daughter of Virgil Duane and Shirley (Lillico) Haakenstad. She was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1969. Following graduation she attended Minot State College. On March 28, 1970 she married Wilson "Bill" Headrick in Minot. On November 27, 1970 their lives were blessed with the birth of their son, Jesse. They lived in Rolla for a short time, where Kathy worked at the Golden Rule as a department store clerk. In 1974 they moved to Washburn, where they made their home. Kathy co-owned a pre-school facility in Washburn for several years and was the librarian at the Washburn Public Library from 1993 to 2000. In 2000, following her husband's retirement from the McLean County Sheriff's Department they moved to Minot. Kathy was employed at Minot State University Center for Extended Learning for a short time and later worked at Choice Hotels in Minot until 2003. From 2003 until the time of her death Kathy was employed as a librarian at the Minot Public Library, a job she truly enjoyed. Kathy was a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753 Ladies Auxiliary and the North Dakota Library Association. Those who shared in her life: Her loving husband, Wilson "Bill" Headrick; son, Jesse (Ann) Headrick; grandsons, Collin and Cody Headrick, all of Minot; parents, Duane and Shirley Haakenstad, Minot; sisters, Marg Taylor, Minot, Mary (Jari) Kari, Bismarck and Deb (Mark) Nelson, Minot; brothers-in-law, Loren (Peggy) Headrick, Minot, and Patrick (Barbara) Headrick, Bismarck; sister-in-law, Ruth Headrick, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins as well as special friends, Lola Vasichek and Sharon Chrest. Kathy was preceded in death by an infant brother, Dwight in 1957, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wanda and Wilson Headrick and nephew, Christopher Taylor. Memorial Service: Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot, ND. Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register Monday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Burial will take place Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m., at Lesje Lutheran Cemetery, rural Souris, ND.
