Arlow Milton Haupt 1928 - 2007 He was born on July 13, 1928, near Venturia, ND, the son of Albert and Martha (Goter) Haupt. Arlow's parents died when he was seven years old. Arlow and his sister, Imelda were cared for by their uncle, August Haupt Jr. until Arlow was 12 or 13 years old. Guardianship went to his uncle, Daniel Goter, after August died. When Arlow was 15, he moved on his own to Woodworth, MN, where he worked in construction. Later he moved to Minneapolis, MN. Arlow served in the United States Marine Corps from 1945 to 1949. During boot camp, he was stationed in Paris Island, SC, and Camp Pendleton, CA. He served overseas in China and Guam. Arlow was honorably discharged and moved to Escondido, CA. In 1963, he moved to Minot, with his two children. Arlow married Leona Scott Fetzer in 1967. Arlow worked for both Nielson-Stewart Chevrolet and the Minot Air Force Base as a civilian mechanic and supervisor until his retirement 1990. Starting in 1991, they spent winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Leona died on March 8, 2003. Arlow and Leona were active members of the Eagles Aerie and the Minot American Legion. Arlow enjoyed fishing, camping, quilting, canning, gardening, socializing, and playing cards. Survivors: sister, Imelda Brown, San Rafael, CA; children, Vicki Weed, Spokane, WA, Albert Haupt, Colorado Springs, CO, Robert Scott, Minot, and Brenda Dunn, Surrey, ND; grandchildren, Sara Dunn, Bismarck, ND, Sheyann Dunn, Fargo, ND, Jesse Dunn, Fargo, and Melissa Haupt, Colorado Springs, CO and a number of extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Martha, wife, Leona, and many extended family members. A memorial service will be held later in the spring at Surrey Lutheran Church when more family and friends are able to gather and share remembrances of an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend.
