William "Bill" Harvey 1925 - 2002

William "Bill" Harvey, 76, 412 20th St NW, Minot, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at a Minot hospital from injuries sustained in a fall from a ladder trimming trees while working in his yard at home.

He was born September 30, 1925, in Douglas, ND the son of Ray and Mildred Harvey. He was reared and educated in Ryder, ND.

Bill entered the United States Navy in December of 1943, serving during World War II. While serving he was stationed in various locations around the world and he received numerous medals and awards including a purple heart, Asiatic pacific campaign medal with three stars, the American campaign medal, a World War II victory medal and the Philippine liberation ribbon. He was honorably discharged in March of 1946. He was proud of his service to our country and recently began sharing those experiences with his grandchildren.

He married Helen George on May 27, 1946, in Glasgow, MT. After their marriage the couple moved to Minot and Bill worked for Bridgeman Creamery and the Minot Interstate Elevator. He ran a grain and gravel trucking company in Minot for many years and in 1958, he took over the Harvey Family Farmstead. He continued to farm until two years ago. After retiring from farming he continued his love of the land taking special interest in his yard, pride in his flowers and watching the fruits of his labor grow. His family was the center of his life. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and sharing is life experiences with them. He had a very strong work ethic and since retiring was learning how to relax and enjoy life. He began new interests such as fishing, camping, gardening and even learning how to toboggan at age 65. He had a gentle way with animals.

Helen died on April 13, 1987, in Minot.

He was a member of St. John The Apostle Catholic Church and the Disabled American Vets, both of Minot.

Alan (Donna) Harvey, and Scott (Jill) Harvey, all of Minot; special friend, Joyce Nordwall, Minot; grandchildren, Kristine, Shaan, Troy, Jeffrey, Deanne, Nikki, Wendy, Wade, Brock, Angela, Derick, Brandon, Kadie, Kelley, Riley, Brittany, Blake, and Brook; great-grandchildren, Alexi, Ivy, Alex, Madyson, Bailey, Levi, Luke, Ben, Sam, Haley, Braeden, Allison, Mikayla, Madilyn, and Kaitlyn; step-grandchildren; brothers, Russell Harvey, Minot, Jim (Frankie) Harvey, Clarkston, WA and Jack Harvey, Indianola, IA; sisters, Kay Gay, Spokane, WA and Mrs. Lyle (Pat) Rakness, Minot. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his parents, two grandchildren, Edward and Stephanie, and infant brothers and sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, June 22, 2002, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.

Rosary Recitation: Friday, June 21, 2002 at 7 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot

Visitation: Friday, June 21, 2002, from Noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot and one hour prior to the rosary at the church.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
