Roger Lee Harris 1924- 2004

Roger Lee Harris, 79, 21 1st Ave SE, Minot, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at his home.

He was born on August 5, 1924, in Kenaston, ND, the son of Arthur and Lily (Nelson) Harris. He was reared and educated in Kenaston, ND. Roger entered the United States Army on June 27, 1944, and served during World War II. He was stationed in Germany and Central Europe and on May 31, 1946, he was honorably discharged.

He married Marion Schumacher on June 27, 1949, in Kenmare, ND. The couple lived in Kenaston and then moved to Kenmare where they spent a number of years before moving to Burlington, ND, then to Minot. Roger worked as a farmer, then construction and most recently as a plumber and pipe fitter where he was a member of the Local Union 300 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters.

Roger loved hunting, fishing, and he most recently took up golfing.

He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Vets and the Last Mans Club.

Survivors: wife, Marion, Minot; son, Michael (Beth) Harris, Viroque, WI; daughters, Darla (Gaylen) Salberg, Grand Forks, ND, Kathie (Jack) Bender, Carlisle, PA, Kerry (Warren) Jessen, Superior, WI, and Mary Pat Bernier, Lisbon, ME; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Pat) Harris, Billings, MT; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lily, brother, Dale Harris, and two sisters, Audrey Opitz and Carol Olson.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, July 24, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation: Today, Friday, July 25, 2004, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Rosary Recitation: Today, Friday, July 25, 2004, at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
