Muriel "Molly"
Margaret Hansen 1920 -
2008 Molly was born on May 30, 1920 in Kenmare, ND, a daughter of Harvey and Anna (Martin) McConnell. She was raised and educated in Kenmare and spent nearly her entire life there. She worked as the Head Operator in the Telephone Office, was once a secretary at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare, worked at the Kenmare Clinic and was a Clerk for the Des Lacs Wildlife Refuge prior to her retirement. She moved to Minot in 2005. Molly was married to Vernon "Bud" Hansen on July 19, 1945 in Kenmare. Bud died on March 19, 1978. Molly was definitely one to stay busy. She was a member of the PEO, belonged to Bridge Clubs and the Kenmare Country Club and was active in Senior Citizens Center in Kenmare and the Parker Center in Minot. She was a volunteer at the silent auction at the Hostfest as well as volunteering at the Baptist Home in Kenmare and Edgewood Vista in Minot. She also had a lifelong passion for reading. Molly became involved with the North Dakota Silver Haired Education Association (SHEA) in its beginning and remained so for many years. She represented Ward County as a delegate to the Silver Haired Assembly, which is a representation of the North Dakota House of Representatives. She held offices both as Chairwoman and Vice Chairwoman as a member of the North Dakota Silver Haired Steering Committee, which was the governing body of SHEA. She served as a member of several of the legislative committees while serving as a member of the Silver Haired Assembly. These committees included the Healthcare Committee, the Long Term Care Committee, the Educational Committee, the Medical and Geriatric Committee, the Human Services Committee and the Senior Programs and Services Committee. She was also a member of the North Dakota Aging Network. She worked diligently for the welfare of the elderly in North Dakota and was instrumental in initiating legislation to be presented to the North Dakota Legislature during her years in the organization. She will be remembered by all for the time she spent working for the welfare of the Seniors of North Dakota. Molly is survived by her daughter Susie Fryett and her husband Jere of Minot and a grandson Nathan Fryett and his special friend Michelle Mills of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Warren, Russell, Francis and Ken and her sisters Mildred Silvain and Berniece Arveson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva, ND. Funeral: Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot ND.
