Meredith Hansen 1926 - 2003

Meredith W. Hansen, 76, 2516 1st Ave SW, Minot, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at a Minot hospital.

He was born September 1, 1926, in Bowbells, ND, the son of Jens and Ingaborg Hansen. He was reared and educated in Coteau, ND and attended the University of North Dakota for one semester.

Meredith entered the United States Army just after World War II. He served with a branch of the secret service until his honorary discharge in 1947. While he was stationed in Salzburg, Austria he met his future wife Gertrude "Geege" Griessner.

Meredith married Geege on January 4, 1948, in Coteau, ND. The couple farmed for a brief time before moving to Minot. Meredith attended Minot State Teachers College and earned his Teaching Certificate. In 1951, Meredith started as an agent for Northwestern Mutual in Minot. He was the first Certified Life Underwriter in North Dakota. Geege died in 1982.

Meredith married Mary Mann in March of 1983. The couple continued to make their home Minot.

Meredith was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. He was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Lions Club, Elks, and the Loyal Order of Moose.

He loved golfing, shooting pool, gardening, and fishing. Meredith also loved to bake and his specialties included Apple Crisp, Amish Friendship Bread and Banana Cream Pie.

Survivors: wife, Mary, Minot; children, Ron (JoAnn) Hansen, Lakewood, CO, Barbara (Howard) Rostad, Peoria, AZ and Karen Anderson, Burnsville, MN; grandchildren, Dustin (Tova) Hansen and Kevin Hansen, Tracy (Toby) Aiton, Aaron (Elaine) Rostad, Cole, Mason and Brea Anderson; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Taylor Aiton; sister, Beverly Steelquist, Squim, WA, and several nieces and nephews survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geege, his parents and his sister, Donna Bergstrom.

Funeral Service: Friday, March 28, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday, March 2003, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
