Ethel May Handeland 1927 - 2004 Ethel May Handeland, 77, Minot, died Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at a Minot nursing home. She was born on May 17, 1927, in Maxbass, ND, the daughter of John and Jenny (McMillan) McLean. She was reared and educated in Maxbass. After graduation she moved to Long beach, CA, with her sister, Gladys. In 1948, she returned to North Dakota and on October 30th she was united in marriage to Theodore Handeland at the Maxbass Lutheran Church. The couple moved to California for a short time and later returned to Lansford, ND. In 1951, they moved to Minot where Ethel raised her nine children. Ethel enjoyed spending weekends with her family at their lake cabin on Lake Metigoshe. Ethel entered Trinity Homes in 2000. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot and a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansford. Ethel loved shopping especially for her children and over the years she collected teacups and spoons. Survivors: husband, of 55 years Theodore, Minot; children, Kathy (Darol) Bonebrake, Nancee (Bart) Strand, Vicki Panasuk, David Handeland, and Craig (Jessie) Handeland, all of Minot, Jennie Handeland, Phoenix, AZ, JoAnn (Jerry) Wiertzema, Harvey, ND, Carolyn (Robert) Braun, Minot and T. J. (Teresa) Handeland, rural Mekinock, ND; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and sister, Gladys Harris, Lakeland, FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Roman Meyer, parents, John and Jenny, and brothers, Dugal, Jack and Daniel McLean. Funeral Service: Saturday, October 16, 2004, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot Visitation: Friday, October 15, 2004, from Noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
