Dora Fredrika Eliza (Ave) Hammer 1906 - 2006

Dora Fredrika Eliza (Ave) Hammer, 99, Turtle Lake, ND, formerly of Velva, ND, died Friday, March 17, 2006, in a Turtle Lake hospital.

She was born on December 3, 1906, in Adair, IA, Guthrie County, the daughter of William and Martha (Fritz) Ave.

In 1911, Dora journeyed to Brown Township south of Velva with her parents. She was the oldest of four girls and two boys. She attended School at Coulee #1 in Brown Township. As a young woman, she worked as a housekeeper for the families of Cap Aiker and the Tooleys of Minot.

She married Harold Hammer on October 13, 1930, in Velva. They lived north and south of Velva where Harold farmed. To this union two daughters were born, Violet and Hazel. Dora went to work at the Coast to Coast for William and Bernice Miller in 1954, and later for Joseph Keller for over 25 years. Harold died in 1962. Dora continued to live in Velva until 1998, when she moved to Edgewood Vista in Minot. In 2000, she entered a Granville adult care center and in 2002, she move to an adult care center in Max. In January of 2004, she entered the Turtle Lake Hospital Swing Bed, Turtle Lake, ND.

Survivors: daughters, Violet Repnow, Bismarck, ND, and her special friend Don Schnabel, Steele, ND, Hazel (Kenneth) Eilers, Edgewood, WA; grandchildren, Donald Repnow, Jacksonville, FL, Eugene (Kathleen) Repnow, and Cynthia (Dale) Howard, all of Hazen, ND, Brian Repnow, Pick City, ND, Cathryn Repnow, Billings, MT, Caryn Repnow, Minot, Nancy (Bill) Wilson, Orting, WA; great-grandchildren, Kara Repnow, Cincinnati, OH, Benjamin (Tami) Howard, Lisbon, ND, Alisha Howard, Minot, Bradley Howard, Hazen, Timothy Blowers, Minot, Jenifer Wilson, Orting, WA; great-great-grandson, Xander H. Howard, Lisbon, ND; sisters, Irene Ave, Velva, ND, and Willadean Pettit, Minot. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hammer, her parents, William and Martha (Fritz) Ave, sister, Laura Howe, and brothers Melvin and Louie Ave.

Funeral Service: Thursday, March 23, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva

Visitation: Wednesday, March 22, 2006, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva

Burial: will take place at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
